A Colombian mayor sparked outrage after he hired muscular male strippers to perform at an International Women’s Day event.
Alfredo Garcia was slammed as “vulgar” and “crude” after he signed off on the bash in Anzoategui’s central town square on Sunday, reports the BBC.
The event was supposed to celebrate women’s global economic, political, and social achievements.
But families and children were instead left shocked after two men dressed as a cop and a cowboy stripped off and started suggestively gyrating to pop music in their underwear.
They were hauled off the stage by Garcia’s own son when they started tugging on their briefs.Garcia claims he didn’t realize that the organizers had planned to book the erotic entertainment when he gave the event the green light.
“It was a big mistake, and inappropriate for Women’s Day. I signed the contract but didn’t know what the show consisted of,” he told El Tiempo.
“To be honest, I was completely unaware that muscular men would dance in their underwear,” he added.
Opposition lawmakers attacked Garcia by claiming the $5,300 spent on the shindig would have been better spent on helping to solve other issues.
The Colombian Institute of Social Welfare has also called for an investigation over whether having children at the event broke the country’s Code of Childhood and Adolescence.
Garcia, however, noted that not everyone was unhappy with the incident.
“Half the town was upset, but another part was very happy with the party,” he said.
